The Bird Box

PLAY, CONNECT, GROW

The Bird Box

The Bird Box is a community-led family centre for children aged 0-4 and their grown-ups.

We’re here to support and nurture families to Play, Connect and Grow.

  • A young child with a pacifier in their mouth, playing on all fours on a yellow mat, with a woman and other children nearby in a brightly lit room with large windows and a view of green trees outside.

    Baby & Toddler Classes

Using a Montessori approach, you can expect a calm, considered and nurturing environment to explore with your little one/s.

  • A woman with short curly red hair and a cheerful smile receiving a plate of food from another person in a kitchen. The woman is wearing a blue top. There are signs on the wall behind her, including a blackboard menu listing fruit and toast options, and a white sign about food allergies and intolerances.

    Toddler Cafe

Our Toddler Cafe is open every Friday from 9:00am - 1:30pm during term time.

We serve affordable and healthy Vegan food for children and their grown-ups.

    FREE Breakfast for Toddlers.

Age appropriate tables, chairs and a visual menu allow children to dine together and participate more fully in their mealtime experience, fostering curiosity and independence.

Our ‘Hot Food Friday’ Community Cooking scheme invites different members of the community to cook a vegan dish in our Kitchen each week. Families attending cafe pay a donation towards their meal to support the cost of ingredients and the wider work of the Bird Box.

  • Children playing and building with cardboard boxes under a purple and gray tent in a backyard, with row of townhouses with brick exteriors and satellite dishes in the background.

    Community Programmes

In addition to our core programme for families, we regularly partner with external organisations to create fully funded community projects and day events.

  • A suburban backyard with a brick house, a lush green lawn, a small tree, and outdoor furniture under a clear blue sky.

    Community Garden

With a closed loop ethos at the center of our vision, we will co-design our green spaces to meet the needs of local families with young children.

We will transform our front garden into a safe, sensory woodland garden for babies, toddlers and their families to explore and learn at their own pace.

Our back garden will become a vibrant community space for growing, learning, connecting and supporting the health and wellbeing of our families.

Our Parents Say…

“The Bird Box play sessions gave me the confidence to help my son develop life skills and allow him to be more independent.

It has been amazing to watch his skills develop from these sessions and a joy to involve him more in everyday tasks at home.”

“I’m always willing to talk about what a fantastic group this is.

A wonderful introduction to the Montessori approach but also the nicest play setting I’ve ever been to.”

“Nest has become a weekly highlight for me.

The relaxed atmosphere and sense of community makes it a very supportive environment while I have got to grips with being a mother of two!”
